Auburn Seminary Executive Vice President The Rev. John Vaughn Responds to Another Acquittal in the Freddie Gray Case

NEW YORK – The decision by Judge Barry Williams to acquit Officer Goodson Jr. of all charges related to the wrongful death of Freddie Gray reinforces the culture of mistrust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. We must find a way to break this cycle of unaccountability and perpetual fear. In my Christian faith tradition, “love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7). We at Auburn stand in loving solidarity with the Baltimore community and those affected by this heart-breaking tragedy that are demanding justice for black men and women who are dying from our criminal justice system. It is through God’s unconditional love that fear is truly defeated.
