WATCH: Rev. Dr. William Barber, II Brings Dr. King’s Prophetic Fire To Nashville MLK Celebration

The nation celebrated the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday.  All across the politicians and religious leaders of all stripes offered nice words about Dr. King.  Even President Trump showed up for a minute at the MLK Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C.

But there were some who really wanted to challenge Americans to remember who Dr. King was and what he stood for – and died for.  The Rev. Dr. Barber was one of those leaders.  Dr. Barber is a pastor of a church in North Carolina as well as the founder of  Repairers of the Breach ,a leader in the Poor People’s Campaign and an Auburn Senior Fellow. This year he was invited to speak at the MLK Day event in Nashville.  And he showed up, filled with prophetic power.   On the stage with the Governor and Congressmen he started with this bracing call:

“Ask the question. Not just do you love Dr. King, because people love dead prophets, but ask the question, do you follow Dr. King today.”

And it just got better from there.

If you are feeling need of inspiration in this moment of disinformation and attacks on the poor and marginalize, give yourself some self care and watch this video and get out there and do justice like a Dr. King.
