In this report, Dr. Jodi L. Porter and Rev. Patrick B. Reyes, Ph.D., explore how graduate theological schools across North America are reimagining teaching and learning to foster belonging, diversity, and transformative leadership. Drawing on research with faculty and leaders from 25 ATS schools, the study highlights relational, inclusive, and trauma-informed pedagogies, flexible and student-centered learning designs, and practical frameworks rooted in Indigenous Appreciative Inquiry.

For four decades, Auburn Theological Seminary has studied trends in theological education. The late Barbara Wheeler launched Auburn Studies in 1993 to provide the field with research that helps leaders identify changes in theological education and inform their decision-making. The Center for the Study of Theological Education was established through a partnership with Lilly Endowment, Inc., in 2007.
