Dr. Kimberly D. Russaw

When Kimberly D. Russaw earned the Ph.D. in Religion from Vanderbilt University, she joined a select cadre of scholars who passionately teach the next generation of ecclesial leaders at our seminaries and universities. Russaw is currently the associate professor of Old Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (Pittsburgh, PA).

Born in Chicago, IL, she graduated from Spelman College (B.A., English) and Clark-Atlanta University (M.B.A., Marketing), and enjoyed a successful career in consumer marketing at Fortune 500 companies before responded to a call to ministry. She is also the founder of her own consultancy, The Russaw Group, LLC. Russaw is the author of Revisiting Rahab: Another Look at the Woman of Jericho (2021), Daughters in the Hebrew Bible (2018), “Undaunted: Reading Miriam for the Staters They Tried to Erase” (2021), and “Wisdom in the Garden: The Woman of Genesis 3 and Alice Walker’s Sofia” (2015). Russaw has also written on the Bible and popular culture in online spaces such as Working Preacher, Bible Odyssey, OnScripture and Huffington Post Religion. 
A sought-after teacher, lecturer, and preacher, Russaw is an ordained clergywoman in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and holds membership in many professional organizations, including the Society of Biblical Literature and the Society for the Study of Black Religion.
