
Dr. Willie Thompson (he/him)
Dr. Willie J. Thompson Jr. is a pastor, educator, and community strategist committed to empowering individuals and strengthening institutions. He serves as Senior Pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he leads vibrant worship, strategic ministries, and community-centered initiatives. Dr. Thompson is also an educator in higher education, advising and teaching interdisciplinary studies students while helping shape future leaders through curriculum development and academic support. Beyond the pulpit and classroom, he is deeply engaged in recovery and wellness advocacy, spearheading programs that support mental, spiritual, and emotional health. He is the co-founder of the International Christian Youth Bible Bowl Competition, a global initiative designed to disciple middle-school youth in Scripture and leadership. He enjoys international travel, cultural immersion, and designing impactful community programs. A fun fact: he is passionate about connecting faith communities across traditions and has participated in spiritual formation work from local congregations to global mission fields. At the program, Dr. Thompson looks forward to deepening spiritual formation practices, building new collaborative networks, and contributing meaningfully to conversations that strengthen the Black Church and beyond.
