Letter from Reverend Brittini L. Palmer
We are 46 days away from the election. In a world marked by increasing violence and polarization, it is important that we remember what sort of world we are building together. Today’s letter comes from Rev. Brittinni Palmer, a participant in the May Center for Storytelling and Narrative Change gathering. Her letter reminds us that we are working for a world defined by laughter, rest, and joy.
Dear Future,
I prayed for you. I prayed that you would be even more gorgeous than I had imagined. That the ancestors would be pleased to see you and nod in agreement. I am writing this letter to tell you that you are beautiful and loved, and many are walking hand in hand so others can experience your beauty. I don’t know when you will read this letter, but I want you to know about the world we are trying to create.
This is a place where everyone has a home, running water, and electricity. A world where corporations do not profit off of the backs of the most vulnerable. A world where everyone has access to food and resources to live abundantly. A world where all those who inhabit the land can rest their bodies. A world where children can laugh, be worry-free, and are protected.
This is a place where women no longer wail at the altar but are given the resources to step into their power and calling. This is a place where compassion and justice are not simply words but guide the thoughts and actions of communities and individuals. A place where no one suffers behind bars and families are thriving. A place where differences are celebrated rather than used as a point of contention and hate is subdued by love. A place where all God’s people create a joyful chorus sings to the heavens, and everyone experiences to light.
This is the world we are trying to create.
Do you see it?
