Letter from Rev. Kristi Saviers McGuire, Alaska

Today’s Letter to the Future comes from Rev. Kristi Saviers McGuire. Rev. McGuire serves as the Conference Superintendent for the Alaska United Methodist Conference. Her letter, a meditation, is a reminder to leaders that we are living and leading in long lineages of change.

Friends of Auburn,

Beloved Future,

Dreams do not have deadlines.

Change and transformation are happening.

Find the good.

Can you see how far the generations among you have come?

Slow is fast and fast is slow.

Breathe.

You are a good ancestor.

You are a good friend.

You are a good child.

The world is full of goodness.

I don’t know what this moment feels like to you.

I do know that you are giving it your all

in the valleys and the mountaintops in which you dwell.

I love you.

The Divine loves you.

Tell all in your midst this good news.

Rev. Kristi Saviers McGuire

Rev. Kristi is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and is currently serving as the Conference Superintendent for Alaska. She is the child of Robert and Diane, born in northeastern Ohio and raised in West Texas. Her paternal ancestors lived in Ireland under the name Seaver and in Germany under the name Zwingli. The Seavers settled in Pennsylvania and Virginia in the 18th century after their name was transformed to Saviers during immigration. The Zwinglers immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 19th century. Kristi’s maternal ancestors are not known. Her paternal great-grandparents were farmers on what is assumed to be unceded Indigenous land.

She studied at Eden Theological Seminary, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, The University of California at Davis, Georgia State University, and Texas A&M University and has served bi-vocationally for the last ten years, specializing in brewing, innovation, strategy, and technology. She loves people. Kristi is a perpetual student with a passion for the advocacy of children and lives life joyfully and abundantly with her husband, Brian, and their four amazing children, Denali, Mollie Belle, Frisco, and Georgia.

Lead with love
